Miami Oct. 15, 2020 (Florida Local Sports) The event 2020 USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior Section Championships were contested Oct. 10-12, 2020, at the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Florida.
In 90-degree heat and high humidity, top-seeded Daniel Patsula (Miramar) dominated the boys’ 12s division, to claim the championship title, breezing through the quarter and semifinals with victories over the No. 7 and No. 4 seeds. In the final, Patsula outlasted the No. 3 seed with a score 7-6, 6-2. Patsula was barely tested throughout the tournament, winning three 6-0 sets through five rounds.
The 5th grader is ranked No. 3 nationally, and No. 1 in Florida and the Southeast for boys 10s on TennisRecruiting.net’s recruiting rankings, and No. 1 in Florida boys 12 and under.
He followed that appearance with a fantastic showing in the 2019 USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Green Ball 10 and under Sectional Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, winning five 4-0 sets through five rounds and never dropping more than one game in a set.
Tennis is a family affair for the Patsulas as Daniel’s sister Elizabeth also playing tennis and their father Vlad who helps the kids reach their goal.
Daniel is grateful for his success to his parents, to the coach Andrey Kozlov, and players who train at the Kozlov tennis Academy.
